Article 1 – Definition
The Erasmus+ Traineeship program aims to offer students in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Health Professions from other universities the opportunity to spend a limited period of time in the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome, the university hospital of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry and Pharmacy and Medicine of Sapienza University, under the suprvision of a professor who acts as a tutor.
Article 2 – Participation Requirements
WHO CAN APPLY?
- Students enrolled in a degree program in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Health Professions;
- Students enrolled in universities located in partner countries of the Erasmus+ Program
WHO CAN’T APPLY?
- Students who have already graduated for more than a year;
- Students attending the three-year preclinical program (for Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics students)
Article 3 - Incoming Students awarded with an Erasmus+ Traineeships Scholarship
3.1 Duration of Stay
Students may request to attend a maximum of two departments (one department per month) for a minimum of sixty days stay between June 1st of each academic year and until September 30th of the following year.
3.2 Required Certificates
Students must have the following medical certificates, required for admission to the hospital units, issued shortly before their stay at the Policlinico Umberto I: hepatitis B vaccination, hepatitis B antibody titer, and negative Mantoux test (or additional TB test certificates, such as a Quantiferon test). These certificates must be uploaded to the student's personal page during the application (in the "Other" section) and shown to their supervisor upon request.
Students arriving for internship mobility are strongly recommended to have an A2 level of Italian and a B1 level of English.
3.3 Application process at a glance
1) Choice of the unit or units in which to carry out the traineeship.
a) If the student wishes to personally contact a tutor from a specific unitasking him/her to act a supervisor, the student will ask the tutor to sign and stamp the preliminary acceptance form (Annex A at the bottom of the regulations). Later on, the student must contact the Erasmus Office of his home university (see point 3 below).
b) The student can send a request by email to med.erasmustraineeship@uniroma1.it, specifying the units in which he whishes to carry out the practice and the preferred period (max. 2 disciplines/units).
It is essential to attach CV, ToR (Transcript of Records), and a motivational letter to the request. The Erasmus placement staff will ask for tutor’s availability and notify the student about the outcome:
• If the outcome is positive, the name of the tutor will be provided.
• If the application is unsuccessful, the student will be invited to resubmit the application.
2) Once the supervisor has been identified, the student will receive a confirmation email containing the duly signed and stamped preliminary acceptance (Annex A).
In the same communication, the office will also include a copy (CC) to the following addresses and offices:

3) Once the preliminary acceptance has been singned and stamped (either by the tutor or by the Erasmus placement staff), the student must request the Erasmus Office of his home university to send an official nomination to the Central Erasmus Office of Sapienza University at erasmusincoming@uniroma1.it with the following information:
• Erasmus University Code (e.g., E MADRID04, TR ISTANBU06);
• Surname;
• First name;
• Gender;
• A valid email address;
• Host department at Sapienza University;
• Intended period of stay: from [day/month/year] to [day/month/year].
4) The student will receive an email from the Sapienza Central Erasmus Office
(erasmusincoming@uniroma1.it) confirming his enrollment with all the instructions to complete the online Application Form.
3.4 Deadlines
The OFFICIAL NOMINATION must be sent by the sending university to the Sapienza Erasmus Central Office erasmusincoming@uniroma1.it at least two months (60 days) before the student's arrival at Sapienza.
After the official nomination, the student will receive the Sapienza access code for the online application form by email. The student will have 30 days to complete the online application form.
Only at the end of the process will the student receive the OFFICIAL ACCEPTANCE LETTER and all the necessary information from the RAEF (Faculty Erasmus Administrative Representative).
3.5 Certificates
Once the application process is complete, students must submit the duly completed Learning Agreement to the tutor who accepted them.
Please note that only the tutor is authorized to sign the Learning Agreement.
Incoming traineeship students must register their attival at the Faculty Erasmus Office before starting the practical activity. This registration is mandatory: without it, students will not be able to access university services (Wi-Fi, cafeteria) or start their internship in the department.
During the mobility period, students should attend the hospital units initially agreed; any changes to the initial agreement may be authorized by completing the "During the mobility" section of the Learning Agreement.
At the end of the Erasmus stay, students must complete the end-of-traineeship procedure at the Faculty Erasmus Office. Upon submitting a copy of the Learning Agreement signed by the tutor in the "After the Mobility" section, the RAEF will issue the student a final Certificate of Attendance.
3.6 Insurance
Sapienza will not provide financial support or any in-kind contribution to the intern.
Sapienza will provide accident insurance coverage to the intern (if not provided by the sending university), covering work-related accidents and travel to and from work.
Sapienza will provide liability insurance coverage to the intern (if not provided by the sending institution).
Sapienza does not provide the scrub to be worn in the departments during the internship. Therefore, the intern should bring his scrub from home or purchase it in advance from Sapienza merchandise.
